Patria. Chapter 1

Pop up exhibition

“On June 9, 2020, I received a video call. My father was dying in

Venezuela, after years spent relentlessly searching for drugs to treat his

chronic asthma. The last time I saw him was also my last visit to the country, in 2015.

How could I experience his death while in exile, thousands of miles away

distance, in a home that was not my own? I recount this violent and

painful: building a way to grieve, away from my family and my

my homeland."

My memory is fragile, my ties to my country, Venezuela, are volatile.”

In the exhibition at Florìda, Oleñka Carrasco presented several pieces and
performance taken from the first and third chapters of her project PATRIA.
