Ombre Rosse

Comic strip creation and artist Talk by Alessandra Respini

In 2024, Alessandra Respini was awarded a three-month City Conference in Cultural Affairs grant for an artistic residency at the Unione Elvetica in Genoa. Her Ombre Rosse project was born after an initial meeting with two members of Calp (collettivo autonomo dei lavoratori portuali) at a conference in Genoa. The conference's topic was the different attempts by the dock workers of Calp to resist and stop the transit of weapons through the Genoa harbour. From this point, Alessandra started an investigation by conducting interviews with the dock workers and participating in demonstrations.

Ombre Rosse will be a graphic novel about resistance, mixing anthropology and art. It will give a contemporary view of the city of Genoa through linked stories. At Studio Florìda, the artist held an artist talk during an event of the PausaPranzo format, interacting with the audience around topics such as the city's anatomy, memory and struggles.
